During my work at the LBFI I have created a flexible vidual identity identity designed to support a range of cultural projects, each with its own distinct expression, but each of them united by surrealism and irreverence

Overview

The Luis Buñuel Film Institute required a visual identity that could support a wide range of cultural outputs, including publications, exhibitions, and digital content. Rather than a single fixed system, the challenge was to create a cohesive framework that allows each project to develop its own visual language while remaining connected to the institute.

Role

As Creative Director, I led the development of the institute’s visual identity, overseeing design across social media, editorial projects, presentations, and exhibitions, ensuring consistency across all outputs.

Approach

The approach focused on building a flexible visual framework rather than a rigid identity system. Core elements such as typography, structure, and compositional principles provide consistency, while allowing each project—whether a book, exhibition, or merchandise—to develop its own distinct visual expression.

This system creates a balance between cohesion and variation, enabling the institute to evolve visually without losing its identity.

Three colorful posters titled 'Bunuel Takeover' displayed on a wall, with the first showing New York City skyline and a bull, the second featuring a vintage image of a woman holding the Statue of Liberty torch, and the third depicting a mouth with an apple inside.
Red hardcover book titled "A Woman Without a Piano: A Memoir" by Jeanne Rucar Búnuel on a wooden desk, with a black and silver pen and a pair of reading glasses nearby, and a blurred background.
A yellow book titled 'The Engaged Antagonist' is placed on a dark brown textured surface. Next to the book, there is a white cup filled with black coffee, sitting on a matching white saucer.
Three movie posters for films by Luis Buñuel, titled "The Exterminating Angel," "Nazarin," and "Un Chien Andalou," displayed on a wall.
Digital collage with vintage and surreal film-inspired imagery, including faces, eyes, animals, a film strip, and abstract shapes, promoting a series about filmmaker Luis Bunuel.
A surreal image featuring a black scorpion on a black wooden floor, with a cloud of white smoke surrounding a large eye at the center of the scene. In the upper part of the image, a giraffe's head appears to emerge from the smoke, and on the right side, there is a circular wall clock showing the time as 3:07. The scene has a dark, mysterious, and fantastical atmosphere.
